My Story

Karla Gaindo

I’m an immigrant, originally from Mexico City and raised in Tijuana. I was born on September 17, 1982. As the oldest of five siblings, I grew up in a very humble environment where I learned to adapt, overcome challenges, and accept life for what it was. My parents taught me the value of hard work and the importance of developing a thick skin to face adversity.

At seven years old, I helped my dad sell chorizo door-to-door, and later worked as a cashier in a store. At 14, my first official job was at a toy manufacturing company. From there, I did a little bit of everything. It was during this time that I was exposed to different kinds of people, and I realized I wasn’t going to stay where I was—I wanted something different.

As I got older, I focused on making money and, unfortunately, I made the decision to drop out of high school. It’s a decision I’m not particularly proud of, but it was part of my journey. At 17, I got married, and by 18, I had my first child. Being a mother has been one of the greatest gifts God has given me. I cherish every chapter of motherhood, and I am incredibly proud of my children. Having them has been the best decision I’ve ever made.

Now, as a 42-year-old woman with four kids, I am going through a journey of self-discovery and a mindset transformation. I’ve found myself becoming a leader for women who feel hopeless, unheard, unseen, or have experienced lives of lack—whether that’s lack of compassion, strong leadership, understanding, guidance, opportunity, or support. I know the feeling of not knowing your purpose. But now, I understand that everything I was looking for in others—love, support, compassion—I had to give to myself.

The name “Khameleon Styles” is a reflection of my life experiences—I'm all about adaptability. I’m someone who can blend into any situation, and that same flexibility shapes how I approach fashion. For me, fashion isn't about following trends or succumbing to external pressures; it’s about how I feel in the moment. My style is a direct expression of my mood.

I embrace my uniqueness and believe in adjusting my style depending on what resources I have at hand. It’s not about keeping up with what’s popular; it’s about being true to myself. I draw inspiration from the chameleon itself—an animal that changes color based on its mood and environment. Whether it’s the rainforests or deserts, a chameleon adapts to its surroundings, and I do the same with my fashion choices.

Just like the chameleon, my style is versatile, ever-changing, and always true to who I am. And that’s the essence of Khameleon Styles!
